The narrative promoted by Vice President Harris and others that pro-life laws are “killing women” is not only misleading but potentially dangerous, as it fuels unnecessary fear and misinformation. This narrative overlooks the fact that pro-life laws include clear exceptions to allow for life-saving medical interventions when a mother’s life is truly at risk. These laws are designed to protect both the unborn and the mother, balancing the protection of life without compromising medical care.

The tragic outcomes cited by critics of pro-life laws often result not from the laws themselves but from failures within the medical system, including medical malpractice or the unsafe use and over-prescription of chemical abortion drugs. Chemical abortions, often self-managed or prescribed with minimal oversight, can lead to severe complications, particularly when access to follow-up care is limited or disregarded. Furthermore, these drugs carry significant risks and are not the same as medically necessary interventions provided in life-threatening circumstances like ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages.

Rather than framing pro-life laws as the culprit, we should be focusing on improving standards of medical care, ensuring that doctors provide comprehensive and responsible care to pregnant women in all situations. A culture that truly values life would encourage more responsible medical practices, support women through complicated pregnancies, and offer compassionate alternatives that affirm the dignity and worth of both mother and child.

By fostering a society that respects and protects all human life—both born and unborn—we can build a foundation of support, understanding, and medical integrity. This approach, rooted in the inherent value of life, is essential to building a compassionate and ethical culture for future generations.
