In yet another sign of escalating tensions in the Middle East, Israel is once again under attack, this time by Iran, with over 180 missiles fired in retaliation for Israeli operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The situation continues to spiral into a potential regional conflict, with Iran boasting about the effectiveness of its missiles and vowing further retaliation if Israel responds.

The Moral Case for Israel’s Defense

Israel’s right to defend itself is not only enshrined in international law but is a matter of moral righteousness. From a Christian perspective, Israel holds a special place as the land of God’s chosen people. While today’s state of Israel is a secular entity, it represents a continuation of the Jewish nation that God made a covenant with thousands of years ago. We must stand firm in our belief that Israel has the right to protect its citizens from aggression, whether it comes from terrorist groups like Hezbollah or state actors like Iran.

The fact that Iran’s attack targeted Israeli military facilities, and more broadly the civilian population, underscores the seriousness of the threat. It’s not just about military strategy—this is an attempt to destabilize the region and push forward an agenda of destruction that has been directed at Israel for decades. Iran’s alliance with Hezbollah, Hamas, and other groups that seek to annihilate Israel is rooted in radical ideologies that reject peaceful coexistence.

As Christians, we are called to be peacemakers, but peace does not come at the cost of justice. A just peace can only be built when the aggressors, in this case Iran and its proxies, are held accountable for their actions.

A Time for Strong Leadership

It is heartening to see that both Israel and the United States have vowed to respond with strength. President Biden’s declaration of unwavering support for Israel, along with U.S. military assistance in intercepting missiles, demonstrates the importance of the U.S.-Israel alliance in a time of crisis. But more is needed than just words of support. As Christians, we believe in the importance of firm leadership, especially when facing evil. Iran’s aggression cannot be met with half-measures or diplomatic platitudes—it requires a clear, decisive response.

This attack is not just about geopolitics; it’s about standing up to regimes that have vowed the destruction of Israel, a nation that continues to reflect God’s covenant with His people. The Bible is replete with stories of God’s people defending their land from enemies, and this moment is no different. It is a time for Israel to stand strong, and for its allies to provide the necessary support, both diplomatically and militarily.

Iran’s Threat to Regional Stability

The recent escalation of missile attacks also highlights a broader issue: Iran’s continued efforts to dominate the region through proxies and direct military actions. For years, Iran has been stoking conflicts across the Middle East by supporting groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, which carry out attacks on Israel and destabilize neighboring countries. This campaign of aggression is part of a long-term strategy to establish dominance and spread its radical Islamic ideology.

As a conservative, I believe in national sovereignty and the right of countries to defend their borders and citizens. Iran’s actions violate these principles, not only by attacking Israel but by continually interfering in the affairs of other nations through militant groups. The world must see Iran’s behavior for what it is: an attempt to expand its influence at the cost of peace and stability in the region.

Biblical Perspectives on the Conflict

We should not overlook the spiritual dimension of this conflict. The Bible speaks of Israel as a “light unto the nations” (Isaiah 49:6), and we should recognize the biblical significance of the Jewish people’s return to their homeland. This attack on Israel is, in some ways, an attack on God’s plan for His people. While I don’t claim to know the full scope of God’s plan, I know that He has not abandoned Israel and that we, as believers, are called to support them.

Psalm 122:6 tells us to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.'” As we watch these events unfold, it is more important than ever that we lift up Israel in our prayers. We must also advocate for strong policies that defend Israel’s right to exist and thrive in the face of such grave threats.

A Call to Action

We have a responsibility to stand for justice and righteousness. Israel’s enemies have made their intentions clear, and the recent missile attacks are just the latest chapter in a long history of hostility. The time has come for the United States and its allies to draw a firm line in the sand. Iran must be held accountable for its aggression, and the international community should recognize the role that groups like Hezbollah play in destabilizing the region.

Now is not the time for equivocation or appeasement. The West, led by the U.S., must send a clear message: acts of aggression against Israel will not be tolerated, and there will be consequences. At the same time, we should continue to pray for peace, knowing that true peace will come only when justice is established, and the enemies of Israel are defeated.

In conclusion, the missile attacks on Israel are a stark reminder that evil is still active in the world, and it seeks to destroy the innocent. But we know that God is in control, and we trust in His plan. As we pray for the safety of Israel and the swift end to this conflict, we also call for strong, decisive action to protect the Holy Land and ensure that future generations can live in peace and security.
