In a troubling move, Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly called for the elimination of the Senate filibuster to pass legislation codifying abortion rights. In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, Harris voiced her support for dismantling the 60-vote requirement in the Senate, a crucial procedural tool that has long protected minority voices in the legislative process.

Harris’s statements should be a wake-up call to all who value the sanctity of life and the Constitutional framework that guards against the unchecked power of a slim majority. She argued that Roe v. Wade’s protections must be restored through federal legislation, stating, “We should eliminate the filibuster for Roe, and get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom.” But her so-called “reproductive freedom” is nothing more than the destruction of unborn children—a position that undermines the God-given right to life.

The filibuster is not just a procedural relic. It is a safeguard that ensures major policy changes cannot be rammed through by narrow, fleeting majorities. By attempting to eliminate this vital protection, Harris is signaling that the radical pro-abortion agenda must override the very foundation of our legislative process.

Abortion and the Culture of Death

Harris’s support for ending the filibuster to pass abortion legislation also exposes a deeper, more disturbing trend within the Democratic Party—a growing obsession with unrestricted abortion access at any cost. Roe v. Wade, which allowed abortion up to the point of fetal viability (around 22-24 weeks), was a tragic judicial overreach, stripping states of their ability to protect unborn life. Yet Harris, along with other Democrats, has pushed even further, signaling that they would not stop at Roe’s limits.

Many on the far left have argued for completely unrestricted abortion access, even in the third trimester, a practice that is morally indefensible and incompatible with a belief in human dignity. Harris has notably remained vague on whether she would support such extreme measures, but her failure to endorse any meaningful limits on abortion should alarm all Americans who value life.

A Christian Response: Defending Life

As Christians, we must reject Harris’s efforts to undermine both the legislative process and the sanctity of life. Scripture is clear on the value God places on human life, even in the womb. Psalm 139:13-16 affirms, “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrong in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” Abortion is a direct assault on the truth that each human being is made in God’s image, and we cannot stand by silently as our nation’s leaders push to expand it.

Harris’s claims that abortion is about protecting “the ability of every woman to make decisions about their own body” ignore the fact that abortion takes the life of another distinct human being—the unborn child. Our belief in the inherent dignity of every person must compel us to speak out against such injustice.

The pro-life movement has made significant strides since the overturning of Roe in 2022, thanks to the appointment of constitutionalist judges under President Donald Trump. But the battle is far from over. Harris and her allies will not stop until abortion is enshrined in federal law once again, this time with fewer restrictions and more devastating consequences for the unborn.

The Future at Stake

The Democratic Party’s obsession with abortion as a campaign centerpiece is not only a tragic reflection of its moral compass but also a political strategy to distract from deeper issues. In doing so, they attempt to solidify their base by promising more radical policies that cater to the most extreme elements of the pro-abortion movement. They blame Donald Trump for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, but in reality, it was a return to Constitutional principles and a recognition that the sanctity of life must be upheld.

As Christians, we are called to defend the innocent. The future of our nation depends on our willingness to protect the most vulnerable—those who cannot speak for themselves. It is time to stand firm against the culture of death that Kamala Harris and the radical left are promoting.

Harris’s desire to eliminate the filibuster and codify abortion rights is a reminder of what’s truly at stake in the coming election. The soul of our nation, the lives of the unborn, and the integrity of our legislative process all hang in the balance. We must pray for wisdom, stand for life, and continue the fight for a future that cherishes every human being from conception to natural death.
